The Performance of Your Life
If you want to give your best singing performance, you need to know how to behave, so here are a few live performance tips to help you out:
The Practice Run
Make sure you practice with the band. A minimum of one dress rehearsal should be carried out prior to taking the stage. When you do your final dress rehearsal, sing from memory.
Outfit Selection
Make sure you choose a good outfit, because this can determine the outcome of your show. When you choose an outfit, make sure that you wear it during rehearsals so that you get used to it. Make sure that you can move and breathe in the outfit you have chosen to wear.
Walking across the stage
Figure out where to stand on the stage, and then practice walking to that spot. Knowing how to walk across a stage and land in place isn’t as easy as it sounds. The idea is to stop in place, but land in the right posture as well. Walk to the spot and keep your posture.
Make sure the speaker faces away
Singing with a band can be really cool, but the first time can be a bit confusing. The speakers will probably be turned away, in which case you will have trouble hearing yourself. For the first few times you could ask to have a speaker turned towards you. The problem is that bands play loudly, and a speaker can be distracting if you’re not used to it. If there is an instrument that plays the melody line, make sure you learn to pick it out.
Remember to smile
When you make your entrance, look at the audience and smile. You appear far more confident if you look straight at your audience as you walk across the stage. Even if you are nervous, you need to make the smile look authentic.
Acknowledgment of the audience
When you are singing, you might not know when it’s time to pay attention to the audience. Singers won’t always sing in a small place. The best thing you can do is watch the professionals and see how they do it.
Be prepared for distractions
Unlike in rehearsal, a live performance can have plenty of distractions. People can do many things in an audience, such as coughing or even leaving early. People in the audience often don’t consider how this distracts the performer. So because you will naturally be distracted at a performance, you will need to stage a few distractions at home to get you ready for the big time. If you have any friends, you can have them try distracting you, and over time you will learn to ignore it.
Keep an eye on your hands
If you’re not sure what to do with your hands during your live singing performance, putting your hands down at your sides is safest. Though your sides might not seem like a great place, it is at least a safe place. You can gesture if you want, just make sure your gesture is complete. Clasping your hands in front of you is another option for your hands.
Okay so now you know some live performance basics. Of course before you present yourself to the crowds, you’ll need to do some work on your singing voice. I highly recommend the Singing Success vocal training program.
